Robert Stanko, Vice President of Operations
Rob Stanko is the Vice President of Operations for The Hydaker-Wheatlake Company (HWC). With over 25 years of experience in power line and substation construction and maintenance, in this position, he provides management and direction for all transmission projects and his department.
Prior to Rob’s employment with The Hydaker-Wheatlake Company in September 2013, he held the position of Large Project Coordinator/Project Manager for Consumers Energy for their entire operating area. A Field Leader III for Transmission Lines Construction and Maintenance for the Eastern zone of Consumers Energy. A Crew Leader and Line Worker for the Transmission Line Department based out of Saginaw, Michigan. A member of the IBEW Local 876 working as a Line Foreman, Lineman, and Apprentice for multiple contractors and utilities across the state of Michigan, and a Substation Construction Technician working for multiple contractors on Consumers Energy property.
Rob is a veteran of the U.S. Navy Construction Battalions (Sea Bee’s) specializing in concrete piers, foundations and flatwork. He is currently pursuing a degree in Business Management and Project Management at Baker College. Rob also enjoys golfing, hunting and spending time with family and friends.
Bret Wheatlake, Vice president - ASSETS
Bret Wheatlake is Vice President - Assets for Utility Supply & Construction (USC). Since he started his employment in 2000, Bret has succeeded in various positions including field work, staff engineering & estimating, project management, and Vice President of Distribution. As Vice President - Assets, he provides oversight and direction for our growing fleet - such as mobile assets, tooling, and equipment.
Bret currently is affiliated with the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) as an active representative for them. In this role, he supports the goal of contractors, providing innovative and safe electrical construction with quality results.
Bret holds a Bachelor’s of Science from Michigan Technological University and a Master’s of Business from Central Michigan University.
In his free time, Bret loves spending time with his dog. He also enjoys boating in the many lakes Michigan has to offer.
